Interlude Music: Kupaoa

Kupaoa (Kellen Paik and Lihau Hannahs)

We are extremely honored to announce that the contemporary Hawaiian duo Kupaoa (Ms. Lihau Hannahs and Mr. Kellen Paik) will be performing the interlude music between our ceremony and reception.

Lihau and Randy were classmates at Hanahauoli School, from Junior Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. Both Lihau and Randy (as well as Lihau’s older brother Kale, of the group ‘Ale’a) began playing upright bass while students at Hanahauoli, and all have become professional bassists!

Kupaoa’s debut album Pili o ke Ao (”The Beginning of a New Day”) hit stores on November 4, 2008, and has already received much praise. Their CDs are available at local music stores and online at CDBaby.com.

As described by the esteemed songwriter Puakea Nogelmeier:

. . . We come to the beginning of a new day, and love urges us to cling side by side — it’s an unfolding dawn for this young duo and their unique style, and the light that comes with it reveals a fresh repertoire of Hawaiian songs set into a beautiful landscape of sound.

We know you will enjoy the beautiful sounds of Kupaoa!
